Meet the Team - Lauren Murphy

We’re proud to introduce Lauren Murphy, our Operations Manager at Connect2Hackney. With over a decade of experience in local authority recruitment, Lauren brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to making recruitment work better for candidates, the council, and the wider Hackney community. We caught up with her to find out more.

1. Tell us about your working background.
I’ve worked in local authority recruitment since 2012 – so I’m a bit dyed in the wool now!

2. What is your role at Connect2Hackney?
I’m the Operations Manager. My role is to make sure the managed agencies support us when we need them, and behave when we don’t.

3. What do you like about working in the recruitment industry?
I enjoy the variety – no two days are ever the same. And at the end of the day, we’re making a difference – not just to people looking for work, but also indirectly to the community Hackney serves.

4. What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I’m excited to change the way the council engages with temporary recruitment. Now that the council is a part-owner of Connect2Hackney, we can directly align with its values and prioritise local candidates in a much more meaningful way.

5. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love musical theatre and all things nerdy and crafty. So outside of work, you’ll probably find me either belting out showtunes or crocheting in front of Red Dwarf or something similar... bit of a dichotomy, but sadly it can’t be sequins all the time!

6. Any top tips for jobseekers?
Be yourself – and remember that interviewers want you to succeed just as much as you do!
