Meet the Team - Will Fletcher
Now to introduce our Business Manager, Will Fletcher! With nearly 25 years of experience in the recruitment industry, our Business Manager brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and hands-on expertise to the Connect2Hackney team. From international talent sourcing to leading teams and supporting local authorities with social work recruitment, Will's journey has been anything but ordinary. In this blog, we sat down with them to learn more about his background, current role, and what drives them, both inside and outside of work.
Tell us about your working background.
I have worked within Recruitment for just under 25 years – literally since university. I initially started working within Construction and Civil Engineering Recruitment, and worked for 2 years in New Zealand, trying to attract talent from the UK. However, most of my experience is recruiting Qualified Social Workers of all levels into Local Authorities; mainly on a locum/interim basis, but I have also worked on the permanent side. I have managed and directed large multi-based teams, but my passion has always been speaking to and coming up with solutions directly with clients and hiring managers.
What is your role at Connect2Hackney?
As Business Manager, I am responsible for leading the team of Talent Partners and Resourcing Assistants to recruit and manage the workforce in Hackney. This can be as diverse as helping with CVs, interview training, and tradeshows – but essentially, it’s about making sure everything runs as it should and that best practice is followed.
What do you like about working in the recruitment industry?
It really can be a rollercoaster – and it’s a cliché, but no two days are ever the same. The highlight for me is the fact that you’re talking with different people from different backgrounds every day. And by this, I don’t just mean candidates – but hiring managers and my team too. I genuinely enjoy meeting and getting to know people.
What are you most looking forward to in your role?
For me, Hackney is a fabulous authority with so much going for it – it’s vibrant, multicultural and very much on the up. I am looking forward to being part of that journey.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I coach girls rugby, which is something I love. It’s great to see so many young girls enjoying and thriving at a sport which often brings them out of their comfort zone. I love to see how they develop and build resilience. I have two daughters as well, so my weekends are generally very busy. I also have a season ticket at Bromley FC – though I don’t often get time to use it – and any spare time is spent reading and going to the gym.
Any tips for jobseekers?
Make sure you are prepared for the role by reading as much as you can about it and the area it’s in, but at the same time, don’t overthink or try to be what you think the hiring manager wants. Be yourself!
